ECOS

Household Cleaning | Branding and Packaging Design

ECOS creates eco-conscious cleaning products that are powered by plants and help reduce environmental impact. The brand is inspired by the clean and healthy living in Greece.

I created packaging that was plastic free to reflect the value of their products into their packaging. I enjoyed utilizing my research skills to learn about the history of the founder which inspired my design solution.

This is a personal project and is not affiliated with ECOS

The new logo represents nature and pure cleaning. The negative space of the logo visually represents the infinite cycle that ECOS creates by taking what is in nature and using it to clean your home.

The water droplet references the purity of the products and references the ocean of Greece.

Overall, the positive and negative space reference a shell and the microorganisms that record the earth's history.

Concept & System Elements

In greek, ECOS means 'home' and for founder Van Vlahakis, home was Chania, Crete. This connection led me to research the beaches of Chania and the microorganisms which inspired my new system for ECOS.

Chania is home to pink sand beaches which get their pink color from an oyster-like microorganism called Benthic Foraminifera — both the clock and recorder of the Earth's history. It has played a crucial role in our understanding of evolution and the environment on Earth.

My concept was growth in gradation. Utilizing gradients to represent how natural ingredients can not only provide an effective clean but create a change in our environment.

The visual system is created to inspire people to grow and change the way they clean. Through gradients and patterns created from the logo which emphasize the infinite cycle of using nature to our advantage!

I enjoyed art directing the photos of the packaging and creating stop motion gifs to portray the unboxing experience.

Packaging Photography

The playfulness of the sponge shows that cleaning and using sustainable products can still be fun and exciting.

Packaging Renders

The hero item is the ceramic dish soap dispenser which allows consumers to invest in a sustainable way to do their dishes. This eliminates the need for plastic soap bottles and is refillable!

My proposal is to have the new ECOS products be refillable. For example, consumers can keep their soap dispenser and purchase a box of tablets to refill their containers.

Process & Learning

This project reinforced the importance of iterations and explorations. I explored many different directions for my logo and packaging forms to reflect my concept.

I learned how to work in both 2D and 3D forms simultaneously. This project taught me a lot about 3D rendering and 3D printing and reminded me how much I enjoy making things by hand.
